K-12 Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management Standards and Best Practices

This one-day certification course provides a comprehensive introduction to the NABITA Standards for School-Based Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management in K-12 Education. It is designed to support schools in implementing proactive strategies that enhance student safety and well-being. The NABITA standards address the growing needs of schools, offering best practices for receiving and managing referrals of concerning behavior, conducting comprehensive assessments, and deploying effective interventions. Participants will learn how to build multidisciplinary teams, assess risk, and develop policies and procedures that guide threat assessment and management processes.
The course covers the importance of educating the broader school community on BTAM processes and building a culture of reporting. Schools will learn how to track and document BTAM activities, analyze data trends, and conduct periodic reviews of their threat assessment and management efforts to ensure ongoing program effectiveness.

NABITA’s expert faculty recognize that each process and school is unique. The NABITA Standards present a flexible framework for holistic behavioral threat assessment and management, enabling participants to adapt and apply the knowledge and tools presented in the NABITA standards within their unique school environments.

  • How to engage the three key phases of Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management: gather data, access, and intervene.
  • The importance of using an objective risk rubric in the assessment of risk and development of interventions on all cases.
  • Strategies for integrating NABITA’s standards of practice into operational procedures.

To obtain certification from NABITA, you will need to sign-in to your Event Lobby each day of training and attend the whole event. It is our expectation that you are present for the entire duration of your training course. Certification will only be provided once NABITA have verified attendance through the Event Lobby.

Please allow 7-10 days following the completion of the course and then log in on our website and visit the My NABITA page to access the Continuing Certification Credit (CCC) program system. Please follow the instructions on the webpage to obtain your certification. Our CCC program allows those certified by NABITA to track, maintain, and extend their professional development through our programs.
